HERITAGE

This artwork, which I lovingly call Suzhali, is the culmination of three years of quiet exploration and creation. As a professional mehndi artist in the past, my hands once danced over intricate patterns, only to pause when a slipped disc forced me to step back. Yet the longing for that meditative, creative joy never left me. In February 2021, I returned to that world—but this time, on canvas. What began as tentative lines gradually unfolded into a labyrinth of forms, a dialogue between my inner thoughts and the universe around me. Some days the artwork slept untouched; other days it consumed me entirely. Through it, I pondered history, philosophy, human nature, and the delicate myths of good and evil. In these conversations, the work became more than art—it became a companion, a teacher, and a mirror to my own evolving self.
The spiral, or Suzhali, is the soul of this creation. It mirrors the cycles of life: birth, growth, death, and rebirth, reminding us that transformation is constant. To me, it symbolizes the journey of everything within the artwork—from the very first line to its present form. Just as humanity has evolved over millennia, so too does our understanding of self and heritage shape our identity. This piece is a meditation on that journey: a visual narration of culture, personal growth, and the continuous pursuit of knowledge. Suzhali is not about an end, but the embrace of the journey itself—a spiral of discovery, resilience, and timeless beauty.
